Facts About the
Temple

Temple Square - April 2000
The temple block in downtown Madrid
is the largest in Europe and the third largest in the church. Next
to the temple is a Stake Center, Visitor's Center and Missionary
Training Center.
The temple is located in the Madrid
neighborhood of Moratalaz. The Church purchased the land from the
City of Madrid for $7 million dollars. The completed project,
including all construction, cost $50 million dollars.
There is a sculpture in the temple
garden of a family. The five real-size figures (two parents, two
children and a grandfather) are looking towards the temple.
The temple district includes 85,000 members in
Spain, Portugal and the French Stake of Bordeaux.
Temple Block Size: 12,846 square meters, which
includes the following structures:
- Temple:
4 ordinance rooms and 4 sealing rooms. Restaurant in the
basement serving delicious Spanish cuisine.
- Multi-Use
Buildings:
Family History Center, Garment Distribution Center, Hostel for
80 people (20 rooms), 10 apartments for missionaries, MTC for 75
missionaries, Church Education Institute, Residency for the
temple president, MTC president and visiting authorities.
- Stake
Center: 2 Stakes and 4 Wards.
- Plaza:
gardens, fountains, private garden for temple and parking for 28
cars.
- Basement:
parking for 112 cars and 3 buses.
