BIRMINGHAM, JOHN (1981-1983)
Wow - I am so glad that I came across this website. It's so great to see how all of you are doing. I left the church IMMEDIATELY after returning from Spain. I loved the people over there but realized that I couldn't teach something that I just didn't believe in so to say the least my time over in Spain was wasted on the LDS church. Sorry Folks. I had some GREAT companions though that understood my feelings and let me be. Shout out to Bob Call from Newport California. You kept me sane Bob. President Deschamps did his level best but really didn't know what to do with me. Thanks for giving me some compassionate companions to help ease the load, and for allowing me to go home a month early. He was a pretty good President albeit unrealistic in his goals. Feel free to email me at my home ...DPORTER@COX.NET Cheers - John Birmingham EX-LDS Elder and very happy with life.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I visited the website and boy has it improved! My wife and I (the former Shannon Adams of Colton, CA) will have our 23th anniversary this November 15th (2006). Yes, that means we didn't waste any time after I got home, and yes, she waited for me but she's not the one who was supposed to be waiting for me (for explanation contact me). We have four boys (Benjamin Abinadi, 20 (Ecuador Guayaquil South Mission); Samuel Lamoni, 18; Jacob Moroni, 15; Michael Kenneth, 12 (Shannon named him)) and currectly live in Southern Ohio, near Gallipolis, about 12 miles north of the Ohio River and West Virginia. We are here because the Spirit told us we needed to be here. I would love to here from anyone from the Deschampes/Paya era (1984-1986).

Hola amigos!!I´m very happy for having found this site. I work at the Security Department of the Madrid Spain Temple since 1998. Previously I worked as a Judicial Agent for the Spanish Justice Administration for six years. My wife Loli and I have two boys and a girl. We live in a very special place: a 25.000 inhabitants town with 230 members of the church (with an activation rate of 95%). Incredible for Spain, isn´t it? And all of this in just seven years. It is one of the miracles of the Temple. I´ve recently seen Elder Payá (Pt. Payá)as a new Area Authority. He looks very good. I´m wishing to hear from any of my companions and other missionaries who served with me. May God bless you all.

After living in Utah for several years, we lived briefly near Seattle, WA and currently reside in beautiful Colorado. For a while I had a job that took me back to Spain once in a while, and I was able to keep in touch with Miguel y MªCarmen Hernandez from SS/RR and Waclaw Jarosz from Rama III. The only former companion I see occasionally is Aurelio Bastidas. Anyone know what happened to Ron Withers or Dennis Tucker?

Davis, Harold (1971-1973)
Doesn't seem to have to many old timers on this board. (maybe to old for computers, ha) Anyone who would like to call or write, do it. You younger people just remember that we old horses plowed lots of ground for your future successes. God bless the best Mission and Missionaries in the church.

DeCanete(Diebold), Cristy (1985-1987)
Hola! I was reading some of the messages on the homepage and realized how long it's been since I served mission. Some of you guys are doing great and have lots of kids! I will tell you what I have been up to lately. I married a great and righteous priesthood holder, named Scott. We have been blessed with 8 beautiful children, Sarah, Carrie, Shawn, Brandon, Annie, Wendy, Elena and Isabella. My husband is blonde with blue eyes and mixed with my genes, being the opposite, we had some pretty interesting looking kids, some blonde, some with dark hair and red. Blue, green, brown eyes,... they are really cute and keep me on my toes all day, (and that takes care of the workout). I have held many callings in church, Primary counselor, Nursery Leader,Relief Society President among many others, and loved them all. I often think of the mission and what a marvellous time that was in our lives. It helped us to become closer to our Father and have strong work habits for our lives and service in the church. I have also been writting songs and have a CD. We go back to Spain every year to see my folks; they live there. My husband served a mission in Spain also and speaks the language; my parents love him too and think he has a cute accent. I never thought my testimony could be stronger than during the time of the mission, but it is. I love this church with every fiber of my heart, I love prayer and the scriptures. In my times of quiet(rare), I love to get on my knees and spend time, lots of time, just talking to Heavenly Father. I don't know what my life would be like without the church. I hope you are all well. I would love to hear from you and exchange family pictures. And if you ever need spanish recipes, let me know, I have a whole bunch. Thanks to all those who made a difference in my life. I have to go now, my 2 year old has a stinky diaper and it's killing me !!! Adios

DeShazer, Michael L. (1973-1975)

I still play guitar and sing, now with my oldest kids. We've formed a folk group and sing at coffee houses. I would like to hear from any of you that remember me. BTW. Does anyone know how to get a hold of Elder George Watkins, violinist extraordinaire? Mike

Heckmann (Davies), Camille (1998-2000)
Hola Spainiacs!!! I have a desparate plea for anyone who served in grand Aluche and knows the Cespedes (Bolivian) family -- Sylvia, Cesar, Ronald, Fabiola and thier cousins, Evelyn, and her family. I have lost contact and am feeling the strains of guilt as I want to get in touch with them. Snail mail preferred, but if you have a telephone number I would take it as well. Any names and addresses from Aluche would be awesome as well. Also, to the Alcobendas crew, what's up with libia and santos? I love that little branch.

Henderson (deceased), Brent (1971-1973)
Brent died in 1991 in a helicopter crash. His wife is Lael Henderson. He has four children: Marie David Julie Peter Each of his children served Spanish speaking missions. My name is Marie Henderson Arnold. I am Brent's oldest daughter. The address is my mother's, but the e-mail and phone are mine. My siblings and I are trying to find out more about our father's mission. If you were one of his companions, or if you know any stories about Elder Brent Henderson that you would be willing to share with us, we would be so grateful. Our father died when we were very young. We have pictures of his mission, but know little else about it. Now that we have all served missions, we have so many questions about what it was like for Dad on his mission. If you have pictures or any stories about him or the people he served with in Spain we would be eternally grateful. Please e-mail them to me or mail them to my mother. We also have pictures of people that with your help we could identify the people in them, and we would be very willing to share them with all of you. Thank you. Marie Arnold

Hyman, Russel (1992-1994)
Word Up. Thinking about the glory days on the mish brings a smile to my face. Mr. Evans and I had a few adventures worth reminiscing about over a beer some time--the Nirvana concert, the discotecas, the beach, the hiking trips, etc. Meanwhile, I'm married to Nuria (from Segovia) and we have two sons, David-11 and Daniel-10. We live in Paradise Valley (Phoenix area) Arizona where I run a small roofing business. We have a piso in Segovia and travel there every summer.

Jabonero(Sanchez), Patricia (1992-1993)
Drop me a line y os mantendré updated!!Besotes!!!

La Abuela, de Madrid (1976-1997)
La Abuela, as she was known from 1974 until her death in 1997 was my grandmother (Antonia Quiros). I was very proud of her, and she always housed several missionaries in her house, as well as supporting me (Fernando) on my mission in California. "Los misioneros son mis niños", she used to say! I just wished the church would´ve been more kind to her in her late years, when I was in the US, and she received no help or visits from anyone of the church. I ask that you at least keep her in your prayers, as she passed away in 1997 requesting the mormon rights to be performed on her burial. Please email me if you also can't make sense out of it, maybe I can help. I've never been happier. I'm looking forward to returning to Spain someday. I wish all of my old companions and presidents all the happiness life can offer.

Loeper (Johanson), Susan (1978-1980)
Updated March, 2006 - I left for Spain from Pennsylvania and returned home to Colorado. Since then I've lived in Massachusetts, California, Utah and we are now settled in Florida. I married Kerry Johanson, the most wonderful man on earth, 25 1/2 years ago. I have six fabulous children, Christine (married and 24), Ben (married and 23), Daniel (18 and headed to BYU in the fall), Carl (17), Elizabeth (15), and David (12). Christine has blessed us with two beautiful grandsons (Bryce and Kyler). I am the ward Choir director and Kerry serves on the High Council. Life is good and the gospel is better. I still speak Spanish regularly because we have a contingency of ward members from Columbia. It's still "la lengua de los angeles."

McCammon, Shane (1994-1996)
Jan. 2004 -- Finally out of Utah and never felt better. Currently planning the revolution from Akron, Ohio, where I masquarade as a law student. Before moving, I worked as a sports writer and news reporter in SLC. Now I'm in the same stake as good ol' Darrin Grella, so I routinely dunk over him in ward b-ball (nothing new). I've been married for 6.5 years -- we have a 4-year-old son (Liam) and another on the way. Long live the CCCFCFC and the puppet show.

McClellan, Shane (1990-1992)
¡Jolines! It's 2005 - took me long enough to find out this site exists! So I graduated from BYU, became VP of a little company, got married to a babe of the highest babehood (had to drug her - j/k), became Worldwide Marketing Manager and Director of International Manufaturing Development for a bigger company, had some kiddos (Shanelle Belen - 5, Colt Remington - 2, and Stetson True - 6 months), bought a fish, travel around the world, ate some peanut butter, found this site. I've been to about 40 different countries but I haven't been back to Spain yet (but will do it soon). I'm looking forward to reminiscing with old companions about being chased by Iraqis, chased by angry gitanos, put in a cell by the Guardia Civil and then having to hide out while our kindly (but senile) dueña threatened them with a bombing, wrecking the mission car, getting accidentally locked into the cathedral in Badajoz, and being blessed to serve the Lord, our projimo and ourselves.

McGurk, Rick (1990-1992)
Cris and I live in Layton UT and are expecting our third little one. We also just started importing swords from Spain. If any of you forgot to pick up your souvenirs, give me a call.

Greetings all you out there. I thought I would just give an update about what is going on in my life. I am working at Hill Air Force Base, as a computer systems monitor. Still living in Kaysville, the place where I grew up. No kids yet, as my first wife and I are separated and not speaking to each other (it's all her fault, she won't even call me on the phone). Just kidding. She's not talking to me because I haven't met her yet. I'm still a menace to society; still looking for the perfect girl (where are you?).

Great to see all the great succuss people are having. Me, well that's another story. Still not married and I still live at home with my parents, although I finally moved into the garage apartment. I've had a hard time figuring out what to do job wise. Right now I'm working at the hamburger place on the corner. I make a mean double cheeseburger. I'm hoping to become the shift manager sometime in the next couple years, although right now I'm happy with what little responsibility I have.

Hola a todos! Just wondering who else is out there from 1985-1986. Drop me an email -- love to hear from you. I'm in Arizona now, married with 5 kids (ages 11, 10, 7, 5, and 2) which keeps me very busy. I have wonderful memories of mission life and the members in Spain, especially those in Mostoles, El Ferrol, Gijon, Leon, and Barrio Uno. As for comps (of which I had the best), I know where a couple are (Hns. Haag and Merriel), but lost track of others. Looking for Hnas. Schiess, Christenson, Ordonez, Hodson, Stewart, Ramos, Grail, and Rodriguez. Also would love to hear from any of the elders I served with, too. You were the best! Someday I'll get back to Spain. Baby #5 decided to make her entrance within a week of the temple dedication so I couldn't attend, but oh, how I would have loved to have been there. Presidents Deschamps and Paya were so awesome -- thank you! Os queremos a todos. Escribidme.
